Prasopora from the Verulam formation

As you would expect, since the Verulam formation is Ordovician in age, you can find a lot of Prasopora bryozoan colonies. This bryozoan forms mound to cone shaped colonies on the surface of the seabed. They are often found eroded loose from the matrix which allows you to see the wrinkled underside.




You can see that this colony first formed on the surface of a brachiopod shell, likely Strophomena.

Another, slightly cleaner specimen.



This specimen is clean enough to see the individual zooids.
